VMWare is impressive.

I’ve mentioned before that I want to set up a bunch of virtual machines running various Linux distributions so that I could build Gaim everywhere automatically. After talking with Christian Hammond (former Gaim developer, current VMWare employee), I decided to try VMWare. Their “Player,” the program that loads and runs stuff is now free. It’s a little tricky to actually make an image, but I finally got it working. I think they intend for you to use VMWare Workstation to actually make images, but if you don’t have that you can kind of do it by hand.

It’s freaking incredible. Let me just say that virtualization beats the pants off emulation. It’s so solid and snappy.
