Napa Valley

Andreas and David from Meebo and I all drove up to Napa Valley today. It was pretty fun. I’m not really sure what people are supposed to do there. We ate at IHOP, went to two wineries, walked around downtown Sonoma, drove around a little bit, then came back. Good times.

Gattaca

I watched the movie Gattaca on Saturday night. It’s good! The basic premise of the story is neat… but kind of simple. But I think they do a good job of like, showing that people can do what they want with their lives, they’re not destined to one role or another, and that makes up for the premise being so straightforward.

Amarok

I’m playing around with the music player Amarok. It’s ok. I use neither Gnome nor KDE, and I generally prefer applications that aren’t deeply woven with a particular desktop environment. I think the KDE-ness of Amarok is enough for me to chose not to use it. It’s a pretty music player, and seems effective, but the UI isn’t very friendly to new users. I mean, the first menu in the menu bar is “Engage.” What is this, Star Trek? I DO like that it comes with on-screen notification of what song is being played. Oh, and dragging files from the left side to the right side is very natural.

    Mark,
Why don’t you read the Art of Loving by Erich Fromm. It is very good. M
