Scrobble Scrobble

Last.fm’s audio scrobbler has an option that “scrobbles” a track after to listening to anywhere between 50% to 100% of the song. So the song is considered listened to if you only listen to 4:30 of a 5 minute song. I LOVE THIS OPTION. I wish every music player did this. It doesn’t even need to be an option–just hardcode it to MAX(30 seconds, 0.8 * tracklength)

Don’t you mean MIN(30 seconds, 0.8 * tracklength) ? Otherwise a 37 second track will never be “scrobbled”.

Also, why do you love this option so much? Not patient enough to finish up the song? :P

Actually, I’m a moron and that doesn’t do what you want either… So I suppose you put that there so one has to listen to at least the first 30 seconds. I guess you just need a special case for tracks shorter than 30 seconds.

Oh yeah, good point. Should be MIN(tracklength, MAX(30, 0.8 * tracklength)). The MIN/MAX thing isn’t that important… I was just thinking that if you have a bunch of 3 second songs and you’re skipping through them quickly you wouldn’t want them to be considered “played” after only 2 seconds. I might have over-thought that.

I guess because I find myself skipping to the next song with like 5 or 10 seconds to go. Especially if the song has a bunch of talking at the end (who does that?!).
