Less Spam

Remember four months ago when I said I switched to Google Mail? The count of emails in my spam folder shows me a seven day rolling average of the amount of spam I’ve received for the past week.

On November 10th a large source of email spam was shut down. Reports stated that it caused a noticeable drop in the amount of spam on the Internet. I noticed that my seven day rolling average dropped from about 11,000 to about 5,000.

How did you generate that graph?

Nevermind, I didn’t realize that was from the WaPo article.

Yeah I cross linked the heck out of that. I don’t know what was used to generate the graph… at first I was thinking MRTG, but I don’t see that guy’s name in the image. Then I started thinking maybe jgraph. But THEN I started thinking that it reminds me of SAS’s Java graphing library.

        So I have no idea.

Mostly I thought it was cool that you had somehow exported spam statistics data from gmail. Until I realized that you hadn’t.

I think it’s still pretty impressive that Mark has three different possibilities of methods to generate this spam graph, whereas I never would have guessed you could even export those stats.
