Wow, Beryl is Amazing

The Beryl window manager (geeky Unix computer stuff) is freaking incredible. It’s one of those new-fangled 3d window managers. You know how OS-X has the fancy expose stuff and all that jazz? It’s sort of like that, but for Linux.

I finally got around to trying it after Robert Harris’ urging, and it’s insanely impressive. It does thinks like, when you drag windows around they wobble a little bit, as if they were somewhat Jello-like instead of rigid. When you drag a window to the edge of the screen, the whole screen rotates and the window is placed on a different side of a cube.

I can’t wait until that kind of thing is the default window manager everywhere. I think it’ll need to be simplified a bit before that happens… like, they need way fewer options. They need to figure out the perfect set of features and just get rid of hoards of options.

Anyhoo, it’s pretty rockin’.
