Of course I should be asleep

ANYWAY, as I was saying…

The “broadcast flag” is something that the FCC is mandating on all HDTV demodulators. HDTV demodulators that respect this flag will only output a high-quality decoded signal to “trusted” devices. They can output a degraded-quality signal to untrusted devices.

From the EFF webpage:

Together, these rules mean that future PVR developers will have to get permission from the FCC and/or Hollywood before building high-definition versions of the TiVo. The products that they do build will be epoxied against user experimentation and future improvement. The rules mean that open-source developers and hobbyists will be shut out of the HDTV loop altogether.

In summary: broadcast flag == bad

Enough of that jibba jabba!!!

I’m going to be buying a couch for my new place. There are really two “classes” of couches I’d be happy with. Which one do you like more?

Class 1

  • Comfortable
  • Plain
  • Rectangular
  • Comfortably seats 3 people
  • Normal couchy fabric
  • Soft cushions on the seat and back (but not too soft)

Class 2

  • Comfortable (but not quite as much as Class 1)
  • Modern and zesty, like what you see in magazines and famous peoples houses
  • Possibly not even rectangular
  • Comfortably seats 3 people
  • Micro-fiber

Also, this is crazy:
Time to go to sleep so I can get up tomorrow and go climb at Pilot. YAYNESS.

I like the white one in class1, and the 3rd, 5th and 6th ones in class 2. Though I think the 3rd one would definitely need pillows on the side. I like the 6th one the most =)

  2. I like the first one and the last one (well, not the crazy last one). But it doesn’t seem like the arm rests would be too comfortable, unless you’re practically lying down. Or maybe if you are actually laying across the couch, in that case they’d probably be awesome.

I’m getting a couch tomorrow… but I’m getting this one because it’s cheap and not falling apart, not for any particular style reasons.

Because we all know that we need more couches in our house. I don’t know how we’ve managed up till now with our mere six couches!

Class one, definitely. But I could live with the fifth and sixth ones from class two. Those look pretty comfy. All those others look like I might get stabbed in the eye if I try to lean on the arm rest.
